A standard question like\u00a0 that usually has a boilerplate answer.\u00a0 However, on this occasion, I realized\u00a0 that no standard answer would\u00a0 apply:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The people? Not since Tonga did\u00a0 I meet a population that was\u00a0 so friendly but so difficult to\u00a0 communicate with. Outside of my parent&#8217;s multinational apartment complex, it was a challenge to\u00a0 connect with anyone.\u00a0 You could not get around with just English.<\/li>\n<li>The food? I didn&#8217;t enjoy any of the\u00a0 traditional Korean cuisine. I thought\u00a0 Korean barbeque and soju were unique but I had a hard time\u00a0 with anything else. This has never happened to me before!!<\/li>\n<li>The city? I think Seoul is amazing.\u00a0 It reminds me of Wellington in New Zealand\u00a0 as it is surrounded by beautiful\u00a0 mountains. The public transportation\u00a0 is fantastic and there were tons of great galleries. However,\u00a0 the narrow alleyways and the\u00a0 amazing density of people above\u00a0 and below the ground made me\u00a0 claustrophobic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What I really enjoyed most was being my family on vacation in another country. \u00a0We used to vacation together all the time when I was growing up; however, our last family vacation was twelve years ago.   <a rel=\"nofollow\" TITLE=\"\" href=\"\" ><\/a>  \u00a0 Even though I could feel all of us returning to our old roles in the &#8220;Koorse family unit&#8221;, I realized how much I missed us sharing an adventure together.<\/p>\n<p>New Year&#8217;s Day was incredible. \u00a0I was swarmed by thousands of people in front of the bell towers! \u00a0My\u00a0claustrophobia\u00a0hit me very hard but I needed to be huddled with the masses to stay warm on that\u00a0ridiculously\u00a0cold night. \u00a0The fireworks were going off inside the crowd but surprisingly no one seemed to care. \u00a0At one point, I joined a \u00a0group that was chanting and I followed along.   <a style=\"text-decoration:none;\" TITLE=\"\" href=\"\" ><\/a> . \u00a0In ten minutes, we were surrounded by police. \u00a0Unfortunately, I don&#8217;t think my crowd was yelling holiday wishes. \u00a0Fortunately, no one was hurt and I learned a valuable lesson.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was at a new year&#8217;s day party a few days ago, and someone asked me what I enjoyed most about\u00a0 my two weeks in Korea visiting my\u00a0 family.
