{"id":66,"date":"2009-05-25T03:48:58","date_gmt":"2009-05-25T03:48:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/koorse.com\/?p=66"},"modified":"2017-03-15T10:06:01","modified_gmt":"2017-03-15T10:06:01","slug":"silly-goose","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/koorse.com\/?p=66","title":{"rendered":"Silly Goose!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been an interesting couple of months \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>The first version of the project I was working on in the Gates Foundation was released a couple months ago.\u00a0 The feedback so far is almost universal disapproval.\u00a0 It&#8217;s humorous that this response is better than what I expected.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The problems that have been identified are fixable<\/li>\n<li>The conversations to improve the\u00a0system have finally taken off<\/li>\n<li>Leadership has stayed committed to the goals that were defined<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I may have skipped out on an MBA for this opportunity, but there are no classes in the world that could have given me a better business education.\u00a0 What an incredible experience!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m adopting a kitten.\u00a0 My girlfriend and I named him &#8220;Silly Goose&#8221; months ago and now we finally have him in our hands.\u00a0 Well&#8230; I will have him in my hands soon.\u00a0 Megan is on a two month stint as a nurse with Project HOPE in South America.\u00a0 Silly Goose and I are looking forward to welcoming her home.<\/p>\n<p>In my short time as a pseudo-bachelor, I&#8217;ve run through an amazing assortment of gadgets:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sold my 17&#8243; Macbook Pro and got an HP 2140 &#8211; I love Apple and its eBay resale value.\u00a0 Surprisingly, I sold the Macbook Pro for $50 more than what I purchased it for six months ago.\u00a0 The tiny HP 2140 netbook\u00a0has proven itself to be a ridiculously cheap and effective replacement.<\/li>\n<li>Bought and sold a Viliv S5 &#8211; I worked with a tiny OQO machine for over an year and loved it.\u00a0 However, computers that small are not really\u00a0for productivity.\u00a0 The company is now out of business.\u00a0 I purchased a Viliv S5\u00a0from Hong Kong to see what the buzz\u00a0was about and sold it one day later.\u00a0 I\u00a0couldn&#8217;t justify\u00a0keeping it.<\/li>\n<li>Bought a\u00a0Slacker G2\u00a0Radio &#8211; I&#8217;m very impressed with the Slacker Radio Service.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t like purchasing music and I no longer have a regular radio.\u00a0\u00a0Slacker provides customized music stations and artist discovery for a very reasonable\u00a0price. You either hate or love the music it plays and it customizes the playlist accordingly.<\/li>\n<li>Purchased a Advanced Frames Inflatable\u00a0kayak &#8211; I\u00a0knew I wanted a kayak but I never thought I would get an inflatable.\u00a0 The Advanced Frames kayak weighs as much as a regular kayak but is infinitely more portable.\u00a0 I take\u00a0it down to a launching point on Lake Union and\u00a0inflate it.\u00a0 This is a purchase you can&#8217;t\u00a0justify\u00a0by dividing the cost of a kayak by the number of weekend kayak rental\u00a0trips.\u00a0\u00a0I simply kayak\u00a0much more often because I own one.<\/li>\n<li>Bought a Kindle 2 eBook Reader &#8211; Another purchase that can&#8217;t be justified by simple math.\u00a0 With an eBook reader, I just read a lot more books than I would than at a library or through a brick and mortar book store.\u00a0 It&#8217;s wonderful!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are a ton of cool gadgets coming out soon.\u00a0 I&#8217;m sure I&#8217;ll be checking a few of them out.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Palm Pre &#8211; I predict that Palm will resurrect itself with this awesome phone and finally give the iPhone some competition.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t I&#8217;ll get it because I&#8217;m not interested in a two year contract with Sprint<\/li>\n<li>New Generation Apple Devices &#8211; I know a new iPhone is coming.\u00a0 What else could Apple pull out this year?\u00a0 What else will I initially dismiss but eventually buy?<\/li>\n<li>Larger Kindle DX &#8211; Finally, a full page eBook reader that I can print my work documents to.\u00a0 Who needs a 6&#8243; screen when you can have 9.7&#8243;?<\/li>\n<li>Nokia N97 &#8211; Unfortunately, I&#8217;ve pre-ordered this device despite knowing it won&#8217;t be a good fit.\u00a0 For $200 off the retail price plus a bluetooth headset, I&#8217;m sure it will eBay well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;ve also caught up on a ridiculous number of TV Shows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First Season of Fringe &#8211; This looks like a cross between the X-Files and Alias.\u00a0 Its one of the best new shows I&#8217;ve seen in a while.\u00a0 With all the good shows ending over the past couple of years &#8211; the Wire, Shield, Heroes (I like to pretend that ended after the first season), Sarah Conner Chronicles, Battlestar Galactica\u00a0&#8211; it&#8217;s nice to have a new show to enjoy.<\/li>\n<li>Seventh Season of 24 &#8211; Almost too predictable after 7 seasons.\u00a0 It&#8217;s still fun to watch, but its novelty is gone.\u00a0 Jack Bauer needs to retire.<\/li>\n<li>Dollhouse &#8211; It&#8217;s been renewed for another season, but I&#8217;m not sure if I like this show yet.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll give it time.<\/li>\n<li>Season 5 of Lost &#8211; This is definitely my favorite show of all time.\u00a0 The season finale was another game changer.\u00a0 It&#8217;s too bad that there is only one season left.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;ve had visits from my friends in other states and countries, and I&#8217;ve taken a few trips on my own.\u00a0 Life is good.\u00a0 I will be launching another workoutrageous competition.\u00a0 I&#8217;m looking into twitter integration&#8230; <a rel=\"nofollow\" TITLE=\"\" href=\"\" ><\/a> <a style=\"text-decoration:none;\" TITLE=\"\" href=\"\" ><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been an interesting couple of months \ud83d\ude42 The first version of the project I was working on in the Gates Foundation was released a couple months ago.\u00a0 The feedback so far is almost universal disapproval.\u00a0 It&#8217;s humorous that this response is better than what I expected.
